Two Aspects of Color Superconductivity: Gauge Independence and Neutrality

چکیده

It is well known that cold dense quark matter is a color superconductor. Color superconducting phases are characterized by a non-vanishing gap function, which can be calculated self-consistently from the SchwingerDyson equation (gap equation). At asymptotic densities, calculations from first principles (QCD) should be possible. However, calculations of the gap function seem to give different results for covariant and Coulomb gauge. This was the motivation to construct a formal proof of gauge independence, which is presented in Sec. 2. It turns out that this proof involves nonvanishing expectation values of the gauge fields. These expectation values act as effective chemical potentials for color and electric charge, which will be briefly discussed in Secs. 3-5.

Chiral symmetry breaking, color superconductivity and color neutral quark matter: a variational approach

We investigate the vacuum realignment for chiral symmetry breaking and color superconductivity at finite density in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in a variational method. The treatment allows us to investigate simultaneous formation of condensates in quark antiquark as well as in diquark channels. The methodology involves an explicit construction of a variational ground state and minimisation of the...

Color Superconductivity from Supersymmetry

A supersymmetric composite model of color superconductivity is proposed. Quarks and diquarks are dynamically generated as composite fields by a newly introduced strong gauge dynamics. It is shown that the condensation of the scalar component of the diquark supermultiplet occurs when the chemical potential becomes larger than some critical value. We believe that the model well captures aspects o...

Recent developments in weak-coupling color superconductivity

Recent developments in weak-coupling color superconductivity are reviewed. These developments are as follows. The mean field gap equation is solved for most common superconducting phases up to subleading order; BCS relation is found to be violated in color-flavor-locking and color-spin-locking phases due to the two-gaps structure of the order parameter; The Debye and Meissner masses of gluons a...

Phase Structure of Color Superconductivity and Chiral Restoration

In the ideal case at asymptotically high baryon density, the color superconductivity with two massless flavors and the color-flavor-locking (CFL) phase with three degenerated massless quarks have been widely discussed from first principle QCD calculations1. For physical applications we are more interested in the moderate baryon density region which may be related to the neutron stars and, in ve...

Introduction to Color Superconductivity

—At high nuclear density and small temperature due to the asymptotic freedom property of QuantumChromoDynamics and to the existence of an attractive channel in the color interaction, diquark condensates might be formed. Since these condensates break the color gauge symmetry, this phenomenon has the name of color superconductivity. In the last few years this has become a very active field of res...
